Its all about the light and shadows.
Last Friday my guest was Rinzi Ruiz. A street photographer that has made his name by shooting in the street of Los Angeles.
I first came across Rinzi’s work on Google+ a while ago, but was able to talk to him briefly when he took part in a hangout on ‘Street Hunters’ Pub show where he took on questions from 8 members of the group.
Rinzi is one of these photographers that just wants to learn all there is about his chosen genre of photography. He practices hard always looking to try something different to bring that different edge to his work. He studies work not only by the masters of old but by the present day photographers. I get the impression this is very important to him and more he is one of the very few photographers that I have spoken to that is prepared to learn about his camera.
Talking through his images whilst we shared them on Pinterest was fascinating as he described the how, the where and the when all these aspects are so important to him as he composes his shots. Be it colour or mono his work is truly outstanding, in some cases I feel his colour work reminds me of Saul Leiter.
If you haven’t found him on Flickr (he is one of the most followed by the way) then search for him immediately his work his outstanding and you can learn a lot from studying his work.
I really enjoyed my chat with Rinzi, I learnt quite a bit actually. The way to practice, the way to process (by taking your time) and shooting less not 150-200 images that I do but just 25-36 images at a time.. ‘Food for thought!’
Photography is all about learning – we don’t know it all and Rinzi enhances the attitude of learning even attending workshops to improve his skills…
I hope you enjoy the show…
